Did Helio Deserve to Win Dancing with the Stars?

Last night's shocking finale of Dancing with the Stars left many fans disappointed and confused.

It was a huge relief for fans of Mel and Helio when Marie Osmond was sent packing early on in the night but the final outcome was somewhat unexpected - at least for fans of the sassy Spice Girl.

Helio Castroneves/ Julianne HoughHelio Castroneves/ Julianne HoughIt was clear that Mel B. was the favorite throughout the competition, although Helio managed to remain at the top of the leader board for the majority of the season as well. But when it comes down to it, who was the better dancer - Mel or Helio?

While it was clear Mel had the techniques and energy to please the judges and the fans week after week, her dancing background with the Spice Girls may have impacted the final results.

Helio, whose dance experience prior to the show consisted of a victory dance after finishing first in the Indianapolis 500, evolved throughout the competition -unlike many of his famous competitors. The enthusiastic racecar driver began with little skill but quickly transformed into an entertaining, well-rounded dancer.

So when I ask myself, "Did Helio deserve to win the competition?" The answer is yes, despite my initial disappointment when the winner was announced.

Besides Mel, the only other celebrity with the skills and technique worthy of the mirror ball trophy was Sabrina Bryan. And I think last night's performance proved that she should have been in the final three.

Do you think Helio was worthy of the win?

At least that annoying phony Marie Osmond didn't win. She was a terrible dancer and was only on the show thanks to the sympathy votes she manipulated out of viewers with that fake fainting spell.

I'm so happy Marie lost. I was down for Cameron, Helio, or Jennie. Last niht, I was so worried when they did eliminate Marie, made the chances of my boy winning a lot more slim. But in the end, he did it! A lot of credit goes to Julianne. She's a great teacher! Even the judges said that her routines are very complicated, more than the other pros.

Mel B and Max were the winners in our opinion. BUT we all must remember this was a popularity contest first and foremost. Yes, Helio came a long way in his dancing but Mel B and Max proved to be the better dancers OVERALL. Marie Osmond was not a good dancer. Yes she came a long way but not good enough to be in the final 3. My husband and I have been judges in dance competitions for years and OVERALL Mel B and Max were the BEST.

Yes, indeed, Helio should have won. He not only brought enthusiasm and delight to the stage, but one could almost FEEL his joy! He's the one we all talked about at the office while gleefully reliving each of his performances the day after the competition. His infectious smile "had me from 'hello.'"

Mel is a fantastic dancer. As the judges said she's a "star". and Max?? WHEW, he's so hot!! But Helio was probably the one I most waited to watch over the last few weeks of this competition. His smile and his charm and enthusiasm made me feel so happy, I found myself smiling everytime he and Julianne danced almost as much Helio was. :) Julianne is one heck of a teacher and I think they make a real cute couple? Think there might be something romantic going on there?

Helio was great, but he won only because Julianne is incredible, a big time fan favourite!!

Mel was robbed. She was by far the better dancer.

Helio and Julienne deserved the win. He started with no real experience, and worked hard to become quite good. He seems too old for Julienne, but they make a charming couple. It would be very cool if they were to become a couple. Their last dance kiss seemed to be mutual and enthusiastic.

I think there were three couples deserving to win dancing with the stars. Those were Sabrina, Mel B and Helio. (If I would pick a fourth it would be Jennie) They deserved it for different reasons. Sabrina had the most natural talent, most recent experience and most training. Mel B had experience, natural talent and improvement. SHe also had the highest scored dances 'till the very end (only Sabrina could've beaten her if she stayed). Helio was the most improved. He also had the drive, the charisma and showmanship. They deserved to win. But only one could come out on top.. and the public chose Helio. For the record I wanted Mel to win. I grew up with the SPice Girls and I love them 'till now.

While I agree that Mel is an excellent dancer from the standpoint of technique, I just didn't feel her dances were anywhere near as exciting as Helio and Julianne's. It felt like every dance they did was the same: lots of synchronized solo-dancing (isn't this supposed to be ballroom dance? How often do you dance with your partner from across the floor?). And as a previous comment said, I always found myself rewinding to watch Helio and Julianne, not Mel and Max. Another problem I have with Mel is that she didn't come in from ground zero like most of the other stars. She's been doing dance routines with the Spice Girls for years. So of course she had better technique! They need to limit this competition to people who have practically no experience otherwise it is unfair. 10 weeks isn't a lot of time to learn to dance, so if someone comes onto the show with 10 years of dance experience, albeit hip-hop, they get a huge leg up.

Mel B. I was content with a Helio win till the GMA interview where her grandmother said "we all voted for you Julianne. Thousands of Hough cousins you haven't". That soured it for me. I do not feel helio was the most improved, he had a fantastic dance partner who did the work while his smile and enthusiasm did the rest. Don't belive me, look at how badly he danced the next morning and subsequent events in other settings and costumes. If you were not told he was the winner wold you have picked it ?
