Screen Writers Strike Until Paid for Profits
WGA Strike: Photo Credit: WENNIf you've been counting the days until the season premiere of your favorite television show, you might be waiting a little longer than expected.
Members of the Writers Guild of America are packing away their keyboards and shelving their creative ideas until they begin reaping the rewards of their hard work.
Film and television writers have initiated a strike, refusing to work until they receive 2.5 percent of the profits from their shows - up until now, writers haven't seen a penny of the earnings.
How long will the strike last?
Many people are wondering just how long strikers can go without receiving a paycheck.
However, it doesn't look like either side is willing to budge and there hasn't been any effort to schedule a negotiation meeting as of yet.
A Hollywood producer told the press just how long the situation could continue.
"We're hunkered down for a long one. From our standpoint, we made every good-faith effort to negotiate a deal and they went on strike. At some point, conversations will take place. But not now."
Which shows have already been affected?
The first shows to take a hit from the strike were The Tonight Show, The Daily Show and The Late Show.
You can expect reruns from most of your favorite TV shows until an agreement has been reached.
Movie and television writers last went on strike in 1988, in a walkout that lasted a whopping five months.
Strikers are hopeful that an agreement will be met soon.
Whose side are you on?
