Oscar Nominees Announced

While the Golden Globes quietly replaced their TV spectacular with a press conference, the Academy is adamant that the show must go on. At an early press conference January 22nd, organizers announced the 80th annual Oscar Award nominations.

Nominees and winners are sure to make an appearance, but not from inside the actual event. The Screen Actors Guild has promised to honor WGA picket lines.

According to the Academy, the WGA strike "affects only the conditions under which we may use such material, not our ability to do so."

Basically, the show is welcome to show what they want, as long as they're willing to pay for it.

So expect to see lots of clips from the two big-budget flicks leading the nominations, No Country for Old Men and There Will be Blood. At eight nominations apiece the flicks are contenders for best picture and best actor.

Negotiations with the striking writers may still bring the actors to the show, but Oscar organizers promise to dazzle, even if there are no stars in attendance.
