Golden Globes Cancelled Due to Writers' Strike?

The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards show has been cancelled because of the ongoing writers' strike, according to PerezHilton.com and DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com.

The sites are reporting that the Golden Globes will no longer be airing as scheduled this Sunday and that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association plans to just make announcements of the winners.

"NBC will not be televising the Golden Globes as planned on January 13th. Insiders tell me also that the entire event, even if it were held untelevised, will be cancelled. And the Hollywood Foreign Press Association instead will merely make an announcement of the winners."

And Perez Hilton seems to agree. His website reads:

"Despite last minute efforts from many parties, the Golden Globes will not proceed as planned this Sunday. A non-broadcast ceremony will not be held as well.

"There will be no Golden Globes this year, in any shape or form."

But the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has yet to confirm these rumors. The latest news on their site still reads:

"The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been placed in an extremely difficult position with the ongoing Writers Guild strike.

"We are making every effort to work out a solution that will permit the Golden Globes to take place with the creative community present to participate.  We hope to announce a resolution to this unfortunate predicament on Monday."

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

We'll keep you posted as the story develops.

WHo cares about the Golden Globe Awards anyhow? I doubt anyone will notice or miss the (non)-event. For the past several years, the GG Awards have just been a bunch of insiders congratulating each other for putting out: 1) Letfitst political tripe; 2) Pro-homosexual propaganda; 3) Other boring stuff that the paying public ignored in droves. There are plenty of sports & live entertainment programs on TV these days, none of which require WGA input, and most of which is (to be honest) more interesting and more entertaining. And if people want to turn off TV, there's enough free programming and other content available on the Internet, that traditional TV has become un-necessary due to its dullness. Former FCC Chairman Newton Minnow's observation that TV was "a vast wasteland" has been proved correct. The GG Awards are part of the waste that clutters the landscape. This whole WGA strike has demonstrated that union & guild "writers" have become an expensive and irrelevant form of overhead in most media. -BL
