Top 5 Pro-Adoption Celebrities/ Celeb Couples!
Whether you decide to adopt one child or ten, there's no doubt that giving children a home is an unselfish act that deserves recognition.
Here's our list of the top 5 celebrities who we think deserve to be recognized for their efforts when it comes to placing children in safe and loving homes:
Long before celebs like Angelina Jolie or Tom Cruise could ever imagine adopting children, Mia Farrow was filling her home with underprivileged children in dire need of help. To this day, Mia has adopted 11 children in addition to her four biological offspring. One of Mia's adopted children (Soon-Yi Previn) ended up having an affair with Farrow's boyfriend at the time, actor Woody Allen. Woody and Soon-Yi went on to marry and adopt two children of their own. Unfortunately, one of Farrow's adopted daughters (Tam) died in March 2000 at 21 years of age after battling a long illness.
2. Rosie O'Donnell and Kelli Carpenter O'Donnell:
Rosie O'Donnell and her wife, Kelli Carpenter launched a worldwide effort to help same-sex families with adoption in the 1990's. Rosie and Kelli have three adopted children together (Parker, Chelsea and Blake) and tried adopting a girl named Mia in 2001 but were refused because Florida state laws prohibit same-sex families from adopting children. Rosie has been fighting vigorously to have these laws removed ever since.
3. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt:
Angelina Jolie has been dubbed as the female responsible for the surge of celebrity adoptions in the new millennium. She has three adopted children (Maddox, Zahara and Pax) who she shares with boyfriend Brad Pitt. Jolie adopted Maddox before she began dating Brad (later Maddox was adopted by Pitt as well). Angelina announced that she and Brad made the decision to adopt Zahara together, marking their first adopted child together. Angie and Brad wanted to adopt Pax together but the orphanage prohibited unmarried couples to adopt. Jolie ended up adopting Pax on her own, with Pitt adopting him later on as well.
4. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman:
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have two adopted children together (despite being divorced), Isabella Jane and Connor Antony. Both Nicole and Tom have spoken publicly on their support of adoption, both inside and outside of the United States.
5. Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw:
Spielberg and his wife, Kate Capshaw have two adopted children together, Theo and Mikaela. Theo was adopted by Capshaw before her marriage to Spielberg but was later adopted by the world renowned film director. Mikaela was later adopted by Spielberg and Capshaw together.
