Heath Ledger Death Means Big Cash for World Media

The tragic death of actor Heath Ledger shocked and devastated millions of people all over the world when it was announced last week. And, after a few hours of mourning, mainstream media began spinning the revenue wheel full force, finding as many ways as possible to cash in on the unfortunate situation.

From magazines and television shows to DVDs and websites, there's no doubt that Heath Ledger's death has increased cash in areas that may have been going through a drought. January is generally an uneventful month in both the entertainment and the electronics industries but this year (as a result of Heath Ledger's death), there is plenty of cash flowing in.

Sales for movies that Ledger starred in (particularly The Patriot, Brokeback Mountain and Ten Things I Hate About You) have skyrocketed since last week's tragic incident and are expected to see at least a few more weeks of increased sales before the curve drops off.

In addition to DVD sales, entertainment shows like ET and The Insider have also been cashing in on exclusive stories surrounding the beloved actor.

Websites like TMZ and Perez Hilton and magazines like US Weekly, PEOPLE and In Touch are also cashing in on Heath's story (whether or not the stories printed are actually accurate).

In a few weeks the story will slowly begin to fade away and so will the sudden surge of revenue. But the hurt that friends and family have been feeling since last week will likely last forever.

Make sure if you're cashing in, you're doing justice to Heath's name.

Focus on the good aspects of Ledger's life - at this point, nothing else matters.
