Britney Spears and Mel Gibson Hook Up!

But don't get the wrong idea, it wasn't a candlelit dinner for two or anything. The celebs were accompanied by a group of people (including Mel's wife, Robin), reports PEOPLE, perhaps for some form of business meeting.

Britney and Mel have been friends for quite some time as they both lived in an exclusive Malibu community together. Insiders claim that Mel and Robin are trying to help Britney deal with the pressures of fame.

"It was exciting to have both of them here together," says a source from the restaurant.

"We heard they hit it off and that Britney seemed excited."

Britney's hook up with Mel has left many wondering whether the two troubled stars plan to team up in a new business adventure or if the rendezvous was more of social event.

Whether the dinner was business or pleasure remains a mystery.

You just never know with Brit-Brit.
