Brad Renfro Dies in Los Angeles Apartment at 25

The 25-year-old actor, who was known primarily for his roles in The Client and Apt Pupil was spending the night with friends before the tragic incident.

Brad RenfroFriends of Renfro told police that he was heard snoring throughout the night but was found not breathing Tuesday morning. His friends called 911 but Renfro was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9 am.

While the cause of death has not been confirmed, Craig Harvey, chief investigator for the Los Angeles county coroner told PEOPLE that a drug overdose "is a possibility considering his history, but right now all we have is the history of his drinking the previous night."

Renfro had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and had previously been convicted of several drug offenses, including attempted heroin possession.

Brad recently finished filming a movie with Billy Bob Thornton and Winona Ryder called The Informers.
